So apparently I jinxed myself last time because I now have an abundance of paper cuts. This week has been crazy getting ready for the ACC and I haven't had a chance to be outside for much too long. Since I'm doing the library team for the next two weeks though, and we're planning on moving stuff to Elaine, I think I'll get to be outside lots to move boxes from one place to the next. A long time ago I promised I would explain the ACC, so here goes my opinion. Its basically a way to get a bunch of stuff done for the community at once. On one side we have the youth camp, which is going on right now. It's a good way to give the kids something to do and encourage them to try to lead better lives. In the next week the youth camp will continue by way of the youth helping run kids camp. For that, we have music, crafts, swimming, all the ideal camp things, but we also try to give them new experiences by bringing them crafts from different cultures and sports that they wouldnt normally play. For example, one of the sports we're doing this year is golf, not something that normally happens in this area. Of the volunteers we have coming, a good amount of them will be at the camp leading the crafts, music, etc., but there will still be tons more other places. Some groups will be taking the Stories on Wheels bus out to Lake View for one week, and Elaine for another to play with the kids and try to give them as much of a camp experience that they can even though they lack a lot of the materials. Lake View doesnt have a building we can use, and the heat is pretty bad, but those kids really enjoy what we do and keep coming anyway. Elaine recently got a building, and it even has air conditioning, but it still isnt were it should be for a proper camp so we have to bring stuff to them. There will also be a group working on construction and gardening, mostly for the Eden Market, which I believe I already explained in earlier posts, and the blessings ministry will be continuing throughout the next two weeks, but with more people so more stuff can get done. And of course, there's library, of which theyre leaving me in charge, oh dear. Anyway, our main goal is to start a rotating library for the bus and to get a lending library out in Elaine. If we can, we also want to help out the new public library, but dont know if we can do anything there yet.
Ok, now that thats all explained, I hope you understand what a huge deal the ACC is to this organization. I can't say its actually clicked with me yet, but that doesnt mean someone else cant grasp it. Then again, not much of anything has been clicking with me recently and I'm having a lot of trouble finding motivation for much of anything. bleh. Well anyway, the pastor at the church I attend here did a sermon a couple weeks ago about humans are meant to be social beings and being a loner didnt make you strong, it actually made you weak so I thought I'd share that small bit about how I'm doing down here. I dont feel like I've made any actual connections yet, and if I havent yet, then I doubt I will, but there's only one more month to go. I'm not doing this to make friends anyway so it doesnt matter, I'm just glad I know I have my friends back home praying for me!
